KARACHI: After shedding 271.1 points since the beginning of the current week, the benchmark KSE 100-share index Wednesday snapped the losing streak and recovered 230.73 points or 0.74 percent to close at 31,454.47 points.

The KSE-100 index closed at 31,454.47 points, up 0.74 percent or 230.73 points as compared to 31,223.74 points Tuesday. Among top 10 volume leaders, nine companies recorded a positive trend.

During intraday trading, the KSE-100 index remained sporadic, touching highest level of 31,536.72 points to 31,181.60 points at lowest level.

Trading took place in 384 scrips, of which 218 closed in positive and 138 with minus signs. The rates of 28 scrips remained unchanged.

Jah.Sidd.Co emerged the volume leader on 22.69 million shares, gaining Re. 0.31 to close at Rs. 16.72. Japan Power stood second, up Re. 0.53 to close at Rs. 3.73 on 19.57 million shares. Engro Foods Ltd closed at Rs. 102.99, up Re. 3.63 on 12.44 million shares.

National Bank moved up by Re. 0.58 to close at Rs. 62.92 on 11.02 million shares. Maple Leaf Cement climbed by Re. 0.82 to close at Rs. 34.49 on 10.48 million shares. Southern Electric witnessed a growth of Re. 0.24 to close at Rs.2.86 on 10.15 million shares. Engro Corp closed at Rs. 213.17 up Rs. 5.60 on 8.44 million shares. P.I.A.C. (A) lost Re. 0.27 to close at Rs. 6.79 on 6.89 million shares. D.G.K. Cement closed at Rs. 90.71, up Rs. 2.47 on 6.65 million shares. B.O.Punjab gained Re. 0.07 to close at Rs. 8.28 on 5.72 million shares.

Rafhan Maize and Exide (PAK) were the top gainers with Rs. 100 and Rs. 66.93 to close at Rs. 10,400 and Rs. 2,066.57, respectively. Wyeth Pak Ltd and Nestle Pak XD were the worst losers with Rs. 219.75 and Rs. 175 to close at Rs. 4,175.25 and Rs. 8,600, respectively.
