KARACHI: A bearish trend returned to Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) Thursday and the benchmark KSE 100-share index shed 184.37 points or 0.59 percent to close at 31,270.10 points against 31,454.47 Wednesday.

Among top 10 volume leaders, six companies recorded a negative trend. During intraday trading, the KSE-100 index remained sporadic, touching highest level of 31,544.12 points and 31,224.39 points lowest level.

Trading took place in 387 scrips, of which 122 closed in positive, 240 with minus signs while the value of 25 scrips remained unchanged.

Jah.Sidd.Co emerged volume leader with 20.43 million shares but plunged by Re 1 to close at Rs. 15.72 while TRG Pak Ltd stood second, up Re. 0.63 to close at Rs. 11.43 with 17.29 million shares. Maple Leaf Cement closed at Rs. 34.91, up Re. 0.42 on 9.90 million shares.

Pervez Ahmed moved up by Re. 0.18 to close at Rs. 3.36 on 8.97 million shares. Pak Int. Bulk showed a negative growth of Re. 0.26 to close at Rs. 25.90 on 7.50 million shares. Japan Power also plunged by Re. 0.31 to close at Rs. 3.42 on 6.99 million shares. P.I.A.C. (A) closed at Rs. 6.75, down Rs. 0.04 on 6.44 million shares. Engro Foods Ltd lost Rs. 2.69 to close at Rs. 100.30 on 5.33 million shares. Lafarge Pak closed at Rs. 16.13, down Re. 0.13 on 4.88 million shares. Pak Elektron gained Re. 0.02 to close at Rs. 29.79 on 4.88 million shares.

Philip Morris Pak and Abbott Lab XD were the top gainers, up Rs. 31.33 and Rs. 28.04 to close at Rs. 990.33 and Rs. 844.42, respectively. Rafhan Maize and Hinopak Motor were the worst losers and declined by Rs. 200 and Rs. 31.08 to close at Rs. 10,200 and Rs. 893.38, respectively.
