ISLAMABAD: Textile exports from the country surged by 13.02 percent in November 2014 as compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to the data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The provisional data for November 2014 released by PBS showed that the total textile exports were recorded at $1,128 million in Nov 2014, up by 13.02 percent over $998 million for the same month of last fiscal year. Detailed analysis of the commodities showed that ten textile products witnessed positive growth among all textile group in Nov 2014 as compared to Nov 2013 which included cotton yarn which witnessed positive growth 31.49 percent to $ 181 million in Nov 2014 over $138 million same month last of the year. A growth of 1.77 percent in the export of cotton cloth was recorded during the period under review, rising from $191 million in Nov 2013 to $ 194 million in Nov 2014. Export of Knitwear from the country witnessed positive growth of 16.53 percent to $ 185 million in Nov 2014 over $158 million same month last of the year. Export of bed wear witnessed growth of 8.96 percent in Nov 2014 comparing to same month of last year as it raise from $ 156 million (October 2013) to $ 170 million Nov this year. Export of made-up articles surged by 15.08 percent to $54 million in Nov 2014 over $ 47 million during same period of last year. A growth of 683.41 percent was recorded in the export of yarn other than cotton yarn in Nov 2014 as total yarn other than cotton yarn exported from the country during the period was recorded at $3.6 million in Nov 2014 against $ 0.464million same month of the last year. During the period under review the export of towel from the country surged by 9.05 percent, rising from $ 54 million (Nov 2013) to $ 59 million Nov 2014. Export of tents, canvas and tarpaulin from the country during the period under review was 98.75 percent rising from $ 7 million (Nov 2013) to $ 13 million Nov 2014. A growth of 19.19 percent was recorded in the export of readymade garments in Nov 2014 as readymade garments exported from the country during the period was recorded at $169 million in Nov 2014 against $ 141 million same month of the last year while export of other textile material witnessed 11.62 percent growth, rising from $ 36 million (Nov 2013) to 41 million November 2014.

However, negative growth in the export of textile group was noted in raw cotton yarn, cotton carded or combed and art, silk and synthetic textile which witnessed negative by 22.86 percent, 86.84 percent and 11.19 percent in Nov 2014 over the same period last year.

FOOD GROUP: The food products export increased by 21.94 percent in Nov 2014 over same period of last year as it was recorded at $ 403 million in Nov 2014 over $ 331 million same month of last fiscal year. However, the food products witnessed negative growth of 0.35 percent in July–Nov 2014-15 over July-Nov 2013-14.

Main commodities of imports during November, 2014 were petroleum products (Rs.68,258 million), petroleum crude (Rs.30,433 million), palm oil (Rs.15,811 million), iron & steel (Rs.14,877 million), plastic materials (Rs.14,640 million), power generating machinery (Rs.11,195 million), medicinal products (Rs.8,745 million), electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs.8,452 million), iron & steel scrap (Rs. 7,747 million) and aircraft, ships & boats (Rs.7,662 million).
