ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued notice to alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi to appear before the court and adjourned hearing till today (Wednesday).

A two-member bench led by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed the hearing of the federal government appeal filed against the Islamabad High Court verdict suspending detention of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

During the proceeding, Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt informed the court that Lakhvi was again detained under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO) after the Anti-Terrorism Court released him.

The Attorney General requested the court to suspend the Islamabad High Court order in the matter, adding that Lakhvi was apprehended on charges of kidnapping an Afghan national.

However, the bench said Lakhvi should appear before the court in the current matter in person or through counsel after which the case would be decided.

Meanwhile, issuing directives to the Judicial Magistrate of Islamabad not to proceed in the Lakhvi’s bail matter for a day, the bench adjourned the hearing till today (January 07).
