KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Monday directed the district South’s SSP to provide police backup to the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) to knock down illegal construction at Gizri Bazaar Road.

Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, a division bench directed the chief executive officer to approach the SSP concerned to provide police force for compliance of its order regarding removal of illegal structure.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Mubarak Masih, who moved alleging that the CBC officials were involved in allowing illegal construction of ground-plus-seven-floor building at Gizri Bazaar Road.

The building was being constructed without any approved plan and CBCs no-objection certificate, he said, adding the builder had covered compulsory-open-space, duct and also encroached three-feet wide street. The court was pleaded to order demolition of the illegal building. Earlier, the court had directed the CBC to take action against the illegal construction in accordance with law and submit a compliance report in court.—PPI
