RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Operations Wing has directed all the satellite TV channels not to air programmes which may harm the relations of Pakistan with friendly countries.

In an advice, Pemra said that “the role of electronic media is quite significant towards image building of the nations. And the authority very proudly can say that our TV channels are playing a positive role while upholding the dignity, sovereignty of the nation and other brotherly countries, except the recent trends going on the TV channels where they are trying to create a negative perception of the brotherly countries among the masses.

In this regard grave concerns have been shown by the Foreign Office on spreading negative news against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its ruling family that they are providing funds to the banned organizations for sectarian violence in Pakistan by some TV channels.

“Under Section 20(c) of PEMRA Ordinance 2002 (as amended by PEMRA Amendment Act 2007 read with clause (l)(o) of the Code of Conduct for Media Broadcasters provided in Schedule-A of Pemra Rules 2009, no programme or advertisement is to be aired which may be detrimental to the relations of Pakistan’s relations with friendly countries”
