KARACHI: The rupee traded both sides against the dollar on the currency market on Tuesday in the process of trading, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee continued weakness versus the dollar, declining further three-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 101.78 and Rs 101.80 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, gained five-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.40 and Rs 102.60 respectively, they said.

The rupee was unchanged against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 113.75 and Rs 114.00 respectively, they said.

In the second Asian trade, the dollar was slightly firmer against a basket of major currencies early on Tuesday, advancing against the euro and sterling in thin trade with several key financial centres shut for holidays.

The euro last traded at $1.1146, continuing to peel away from a two-month peak of $1.1290 set on Friday. It also lost a bit of ground against the yen, slipping to 133.96, from Friday's two-month high of 135.29. Sterling stayed on the defensive just days before Britons vote in the closest-fought electoral race in recent history.

The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at 63.46, the greenback was available at 3.5995 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.2083 versus the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid a sluggish trading trend on the local currency market on Tuesday.

The dollar began trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 102.65 and Rs 102.90 as its buying and selling rate though there was hardly any change in its demand and supply that kept its rate unchanged at the opening level. The rupee failed to maintain its upward trend and declined against the pound sterling that was traded at Rs 154.60 and Rs 154.85 on buying and selling counter compared with Monday closing of Rs 154.50 and Rs 154.75.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.

The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).

Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
