FAISALABAD:-Prof Dr. Thomas L Rost from the University of California, USA on Saturday said that curriculum based upon needs and challenges of modern era will pave way of addressing the issues of society including poverty, unemployment, agricultural productivity, health care etc.

He was addressing the seminar titled curriculum development arranged at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

He said that curriculum must be made on the principles that would lead towards the changes in the lives of the people keeping the long term goals and short term objectives in view. He said that the education is a life for any nation. He said that with the passage of time, new IT tools have gained immense importance. The usage of these tools also makes the environment of teaching and learning interactive. He said that the usage of the different teaching methods keep the audience focused. UAF VC Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the teachers should make the difference. He urged the teaching community to take all possible steps to hone the in-build skills of the students in order to emerge as an ideal nation. He said that the UAF in collaboration with University of California Davis was revising all its courses at par with international standards. He added that initially, courses of Veterinary are being revisited following the Food and Engineering faculties. He said that the UAF was meant for uplift of agriculture sector and rural development with the help of trained manpower, research and outreach programme. He said that 100 elective courses are introduced in the different disciplines at the UAF.

UAF former VC Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad said quality education, research, strong academia-industry linkages and transformation of knowledge into goods and services are imperative to address the issues of common man. He said that the good curriculum as per demand of the era was essential in this regard. He also urged the scientists to come with out-of-the-box solutions of the farming community to fight the food insecurity. Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization Director Prof Dr Asif Ali also spoke on the occasion.
