RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umer on Tuesday said that the party has all the rights to discuss the report of the judicial commission.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the back-benchers of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) who knew nothing about the agreement signed between PTI and the government, should better study the ToRs (terms of reference) of the agreement.

“This is a pity that people like Danyal Aziz and Talal Chaudhry who had no idea where the PTI and the government negotiating teams held a meeting, have now jumped into the fray, telling us that we are bound not to speak on the report,” he regretted.

He continued that the PTI is free to discuss the report as there is no such binding in the agreement which bars any party to discuss the judicial commission’s report, adding “it is our right to explain the report to a common man who has no idea how to register a case.”

To a question about the demand made by some PML-N back benchers to disqualify the PTI members’ National Assembly membership, he said it was government which literally begged to the party to return to the parliament.

“It’s no secret how desperate the government was to bring the PTI MPs back to the parliament (and) people are also privy to the way they [Khawaja Asif and others] behaved. Let us see as we’re not worried about anything because we protested for a cause and will continue to do so for the rights of our people,” he added.

He said that if the Speaker National Assembly thinks that the members of PTI should be disqualified, he must proceed as per law and the constitution as the party strongly believes in supremacy of law and the constitution.
