LAHORE: As the peak of over 730,000 cusecs of water passed through the Guddu barrage on the mighty Indus on Sunday, the downstream upgraded Sukkur barrage is bracing for the brunt of a very high flood level today. According to latest Meteorological and Hydrological conditions observed by Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, Indus River at Sukkur has attained high flood level ranging between 650,000 cusecs to 750,000 cusecs during the period from 1200 PST of August 2, 2015 to 2400PST of August 4, 2015. However the mighty Indus would continue to remain in high flood level further seven days, FFD added. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that so far 1,423 villages and 2, 81,921 people have been affected by the floods in the Sindh province.

Hydrological situation:

River Indus at Guddu and Sukkur is in Very High Flood Level. River Indus at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and River Kabul at Nowshera are in high flood level. River Indus at Tarbela and Kotri are in Low flood level.

According to latest Meteorological and Hydrological conditions observed by Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, River Indus at Kalabagh is likely to attain high flood level, ranging between 500,000 cusecs to 550,000 cusecs during the period from 0600 PST of August 2, 2015 to 0600 PST of August 3, 2015

Met office weather warning:

Flash flooding is expected in local streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand division), Gilgit, FAta (Khyber, Kurram, Bajaour, Aurakzai and Mehmand, north and south Waziristan agencies), Potohar (Rawalpindi and Sargodha divisions) and D.G.Khan division.

Widespread rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) expected in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar, Kohat, and Bannu divisions), Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, D.G.Khan, and Sahiwal divisions), Fata(Khyber, Kurram, Bajaour, Ourakzai, Mohmand, north and south Waziristan agencies) and Gilgit, while scattered rain thundershower is likely in D.I.Khan, Zhob, Kalat, Bahawalpur, Lahore, Gujranwala divisions, Kashmir and Baltistan.

Weather outlook:

Scattered thunderstorm/rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls is expected over Upper catchments of all the major rivers along with Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northeast Balochistan. Isolated thunderstorm/rain of moderate intensity is expected over Gilgit-Baltistan. High flow is expected in Hill Torrents of D.G.Khan division during the period.

Scattered rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) expected in Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Peshawar divisions), northeast Punjab (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala Sargodha, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions) and Kashmir, while isolated rain thundershower is likely in Gilgit-Baltistan and Fata.
