ISLAMABAD: Ms. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Managing Director World Bank called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at PM House here today.

The Prime Minister appreciated the World Banks’ continuous support to Pakistan. He said that priority areas of development strategy are Energy, Economy, and Education sectors. He welcomed the cooperation of World Band and the Development Partners in these areas.

The MD World Bank appreciated the economic turn-around made possible by the policies of the Government of Pakistan and the macro-economic stability achieved by virtue of these policies. She further said that public and private sector confidence has been restored and World Bank considers Pakistan a reliable partner and is looking forward to increasing cooperation. The MD World Bank while appreciating the successful economic turn around offered IBRD assistance package of US $2 billion over a period of four years after break of many years.

The Prime Minister discussed with her proposed initiatives of regional connectivity through rail/road links in the region. In this regard the Prime Minister informed the MD World Bank about improving and building rail/road links from Karachi and Gawadar to Turkmenistan city of Tirmiz, where Central Asian States including Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan have boarders at short distances. She assured World Bank’s interest and support for the proposed initiative.—PR
