CHINIOT/DIR: At least eight persons including women were drowned on Wednesday in flood waters in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

According to reports, three women, including mother, daughter and niece drowned Wednesday while crossing Chenab River near Chiniot. In the second incident, in Dubair valley of lower Kohistan, five persons were washed away by the flood water while several houses were seriously damaged.

Police sources said that due to overnight heavy rain, the mountainous streams were flooded in Kargah area of Dubair Bala. The flooded streams washed away five persons including two women.

Police said that a large contingent of the force has been despatched but the area is inaccessible as it cannot be reached by any mean of transport and there is no telephonic network as well.—INP
