RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) will hold meeting with government officials on Thursday on the tariff, tax and investment related issues confronting the viability of the industry.

APTMA spokesman said Chairman APTMA S M Tanveer along with APTMA Group Leader Gohar Ejaz and the Central Vice Chairmen from Punjab, Sindh and KP chapters, would lead the delegation to Islamabad.

APTMA members including Amir Fayyaz, Ahmed Kamal, Shahid Mazhar and Rehman Nasim will be part of the delegation. He said the association would hold first meeting with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan to discuss the restoration of viability of the textile industry including a regionally competitive electricity tariff and zero rating of taxes on exports.

He said the association would seek special electricity tariff for the export-oriented textile industry operating on the independent feeders with zero line losses. Only a regionally competitive electricity tariff could save the textile industry ahead, he added.

He pointed out that the high cost of doing business has halted the investment prospects in the textile industry.
