RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: A top Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader has claimed that government functionaries are indulging in dramatics of spreading hatred against the army in a bid to encourage anti-state elements.

Party President and former premier Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Monday, “The procedure has been provided in the Constitution on an anti-army statement and tendering resignations from the assemblies. It has also been mentioned in the Constitution that if need so, the Supreme Court can interpret and explain it as per Constitution.

“For its interpretation the government should have approached the Supreme Court but the government is not going to do so because the government itself is involved in the whole drama.”

Under the situation, he said the Supreme Court should take sou moto notice and make interpretation so that ambiguity prevailing among the people can end.

“The government functionaries are indulging in statement mongering against the army and if it is encouraged further, other elements would also start doing this work. Keeping in view the powers given in the Constitution, the Supreme Court should take sou moto notice to interpret the provisions in the Constitution about statement mongering against the army and the procedure about resignation from the Parliament.”
