KARACHI: The rupee could not sustain its week-end levels against the dollar and the euro on the local currency market on Monday, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee lost 18-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.18 and Rs 104.22 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee almost retained last levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.50 and Rs 104.75 respectively, while it shed 50-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 116.70 and Rs 117.70 respectively, they said.

In the first Asian trade, the dollar began the week under pressure on Monday, on track for monthly losses but off recent lows as investors kept alive hopes that the US Federal Reserve would raise interest rates as early as next month.

The dollar slid 0.6 percent to 121.01 yen, down about 2.3 percent for August, but well above a seven-month low of 116.15 touched a week ago. The euro rose 0.6 percent to $1.1249, below last week's high of $1.1715 but still up 2.4 percent for the month.

The dollar was available at Rs 66.32 against the Indian rupee, the greenback was at 4.2000 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.377 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee has come under pressure against a string of foreign currencies at the open currency markets of Lahore.

Currency dealers said the dollar resumed trading at Rs 104.55 and Rs 104.90 on the buying and selling counters, respectively, as against Saturday's rate of Rs 104.60 and Rs 104.86. Following urge in demand, the greenback appreciated its worth by 5-paisa and closed at Rs 104.65 and Rs 104.90 on the buying and selling counters, respectively.

The British pound too appreciated its worth against the rupee.

The Pound Sterling was purchased and sold at Rs 160.30 and Rs 160.70 as against Rs 159.60 and Rs 160.50 on Saturday, the dealers added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained firm against the rupee on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.

The dollar opened at Rs 104 (buying) and Rs 104.25 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 104 (buying) and Rs 104.25 (selling).

Pound Sterling opened at Rs 161 (buying) and Rs 161.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 161 (buying) and Rs 161.50 (selling).
