One-minute silence to be observed

ISLAMABAD: The five-member committee, headed by Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Minister for Defence, Friday decided the entire nation whether at home, workplace or roads will observe one-minute of silence from 9:29 am to 9:30 am on Sunday (Sept 6). Later, National Anthem by all media outfits (TV & Radio) will be played from 9:30 am to 9:32 am.

This will be observed to pay homage to the martyrs of 1965 War and to reaffirm nation’s resolve to defend the motherland in the similar manner in case of such threat in the future.

The Committee had been formed by the Prime Minister to oversee celebration of 50th Anniversary of 1965 War.

During the one minute silence, all road and railway traffic will stop wherever it is.

This will be followed by offering of special prayers for the martyrs of the 1965 War.

The decision to observe silence has been taken to communicate the message that the entire Pakistani nation was united to defend the country in 1965 War and entire nation is once again united to defend the country against its enemy within Pakistan and to thwart out any foreign threat to the motherland.

Observance of silence is part of the comprehensive month long programme, chalked out to pay homage to martyrs of 1965 War and to pay tribute to the people from all walks of life who played their due role while Armed Forces were busy in defending the motherland with unmatched bravery and gallantry.—APP
