KARACHI: Firmness prevailed on the money market on Thursday as the rupee almost held the overnight levels in terms of the dollar, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee shed one-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.50 and 105.51 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee did not move any side in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 106.00 and Rs 106.30 respectively, while it extended overnight gains, picking up 10-paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 112.80 and Rs 113.80, they added.

In the forth Asian trade, the dollar was back on a bullish footing, dusting off its latest setback helped by upbeat US data and monetary easing expectations that dragged down the euro.

The euro was shaky, having slid to its lowest in more than seven months after ECB officials told Reuters they were considering options such as whether to stagger charges on banks hoarding cash or to buy more debt, ahead of next week's policy review.

The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 66.48, the greenback was at 4.2150 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit, the US currency was at 6.3893 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee drifted lower against the dollar on the local money market on Thursday.

Currency dealers said that the dollar experienced slight increase in its demand helping its value.

Though following buyer's interest, it went up and closed at Rs 106.90 and Rs 107.15 on the buying and selling side against Rs 106.85 and Rs 107.10 of Wednesday.

But a stronger rupee improved further against the pound sterling which was traded at Rs 160.30 and Rs 160.80 on the buying and selling counter as compared with the previous closing of Rs 160.60 and Rs 161.20.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar further gained strength against the Pak rupee on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.

The dollar opened at Rs 106 (buying) and Rs 106.20 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 106 (buying) and Rs 106.20 (selling).

Pound Sterling opened at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling).
