ISLAMABAD: Serena Hotels in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority initiated the spring tree plantation campaign 2016. The event was graced by a large number of Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Government dignitaries and corporate executives. While addressing the gathering, Aziz Boolani offered Serena Hotel’s services in maintaining the adjacent park at the hotel’s cost. He also proposed that Serena Hotel’s would be able to assist CDA in replicating the concept of garbage segregation into dry, wet and metal/plastic bins as is being done at the hotel, in one or two residential sectors of Islamabad as a pilot project. At present the world is facing environmental problems and global warming and pollution have become serious issues. The answer to these problems lies in planting more trees - the prime source of environmental beautification and purification. He also mentioned that Serena Business Complex is the only Green Office Building in Pakistan certified by the WWF, which is an achievement and now Serena Hotel’s strives to become a Green Hotel.
Her Excellency Martine Dorance, Ambassador of France to Pakistan while addressing the audience, said “Plantation campaigns are good for the generations to come, and we can all work together on improving the environment”.
SanaullahAwan, Member Environment CDA, while appreciating the support of Serena Hotels, briefed the audience on CDA’s plan to make Islamabad as the role model for clean and better city in the region.
The campaign kick started by the plantation of trees by the diplomats and other dignitaries. Plumeria, Mechelia Alba, MangoliaGrandiflora, Plumeria White, and Murraya, Silver Oaks, Amaltas, and Jacarandas were amongst the trees that were planted.
The tree plantation campaign was organized under Serena Hotels SEED Programme. TheProgramme focuses on areas of Culture, Environment, Governance and Society. The Spring Tree Plantation Campaign is one of the many initiatives carried out by Serena Hotels to give back to the community.—PR
