LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) is striving to transform Lahore as one of the cleanest cities in the world by providing customized solutions in the consultation with citizens and private partners to ensure sustainable, safe, clean and green environment.

The LWMC Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed stated this while talking to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) office bearers here Thursday. He said that performance in a city having population of over 10 million people with a staff of around 10,000 is a big task, he added.

The latest equipment is being used for garbage management; he said and added that work on number of projects for waste management is well on the way. An effective monitoring system and helpline have also been established.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Almas Hyder said that the close interaction between local and foreign companies in your case has proved successful and we suggest that this model must be followed in other local and provincial departments. The housing societies seem to be given some preference over such residential areas which are in and around the walled city. There is an evident difference of population density in these areas so this imbalance has to be addressed on priority, he added.

The LCCI Vice President Nasir Saeed said that in the times of monsoon, the scattered garbage in densely populated areas slows down free flow of rainwater. It causes a lot of problems to inhabitants but also hurts business activities. He said that there are godowns and warehouses in busy parts of city which remain under high threats of being damaged due to rainwater, he said.
