ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday adopted a motion authorizing the Speaker National Assembly to appoint a parliamentary committee for reviewing the NAB law.

The house adopted the motion moved by Federal Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid to authorize the Speaker National Assembly to constitute the committee in consultation with the Chairman of the Senate and Leaders of the parliamentary parties comprising up to 20 members to consider amendments in National Accountability Act.

According to the motion, the committee will present its report within three months after its notification. The parliamentary leaders of political parties, according to their strength in the Parliament, would submit their names with the Speaker for representation in the committee.

Zahid Hamid also moved another motion to continue the working of Sub-Committee of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms. According to recent amendments in the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, any committee could constitute only one Sub-Committee and it will have to present its report within one month.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while responding to a point of order raised by Iqbal Muhammad Ali of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) said he would talk to DG Rangers and Sindh Government for addressing the concerns of MQM about harassment and arrests of its workers.

He sought time for this purpose till tomorrow and said he will report back to the House.

Earlier, Iqbal Muhammad Ali speaking on a point of order said MQM is being pushed to the wall. He pointed out that the MQM office was raided on Tuesday in Karachi and arrests were made.
