KARACHI: Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has condemned the attacks on the offices of media houses and Karachi Press Club on Monday.

On behalf of all the members, the CPNE president Zia Shahid and secretary general Aijaz ul Haq issued a joint statement asserting that it was not possible to effect the media and democratic institutions through growing incidents of violent attacks and terrorism against media.

They vowed that journalists would continue to shoulder their professional responsibilities despite terrorism and any sort of political or non-political pressure.

They said that it was a constitutional and legal obligation of the government to protect the journalists, media houses and their properties hence the security of public institutions, journalists, newspapers offices and media houses must be ensured and concrete measures be adopted to stop such incidents and attacks.

They demanded immediate arrest and due punishment to the culprits involved in the Monday terrorist attacks.
