RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Sindh Education Department had terminated scores of teachers of different grades appointed illegally during last several years, it has been revealed.

The illegally appointed school teachers have been protesting against Sindh government on their termination from the job. However, official in the education department categorically said people protesting under the guise of teachers are totally ‘fake teachers’.

“These so-called teachers were appointed through illegal and unfair means during different periods,” official said.

He said they were appointed illegally in place of those teachers who died during service/retired earlier or resigned earlier.

“An inquiry committee was formed led by the Chief Secretary and it also revealed that all appointments were illegal and in first phase their salaries were stopped and in the second phase they were terminated from their services,” he added.

He said action is also being taken against those officers of the education department who were found involved in malpractices.

Sources said the Sindh education department, marred by corruption, is being used to fulfil political commitments made by the PPP lawmakers to people during elections.

“Thousands of illegal appointments have been made in the department during last 10 years,” he added.

Sources said the Sindh government has started combing operation in the department to detect the illegal appointments in order to minimise the financial burden on the government.

A spokesman of the Sindh education department said the protest of what he said ‘so-called teachers’ was quite unjust, totally illegal and against the ethics.

The spokesman categorically stated that the education department could not be blackmailed or pressurized in any way.
