ISLAMABAD: Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government had collected Rs 100 billion on petroleum products in one year.

“The PML-N government has collected Rs 100 billion in one year from the pockets of the people by imposing additional taxes on the petroleum products. A leader of PML-N government when he was opposition leader had termed the levy tax on the petroleum products as ‘Jagga Tax’. Now, the PML-N has collected 35 percent taxes on the petroleum products,” the Opposition Leader said this while talking to media on Thursday.

He said the government had not kept its commitment to the people and had not given any relief to them. The government gave message to the nation on Wednesday that the petroleum prices were not being increased for last five months, he added.

“The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has recommended the government to decrease the price of petroleum product but the government did not do so,” he said.

The Opposition Leader said the government had increased tax on petrol from 17 percent to 20 percent, adding the government was increasing the burden of taxes instead of giving relief to the people. The government misguided 200 million people on the price of petroleum products. He said, “For the first time in the history of Pakistan, the government has obtained a total of Rs 2100 billion loan in one year.” The Opposition Leader said the government and establishment should not ban the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). “I am not in the favour of banning the MQM. Let the MQM do its work, the situation would be cleared in next six month,” he said.

“The MQM has announced of separation from Altaf Hussain. If any leader of MQM secretly contacts with Altaf Hussain, he/she will exposed with the passage of time.

“Anybody who will support or shake hand with Altaf Hussain will be considered the enemy of Pakistan,” Khursheed Shah said.

Abut the issue of Panama Papers the Opposition Leader said if the government rejected the bill of opposition then a joint strategy would be prepared.
