KARACHI: Pakistan’s leading biscuit company, English Biscuit Manufacturers (Pvt.) Limited (EBM), in collaboration with the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) inaugurated the Mother and Child Outpatient Department (MnCH OPD) of MALC- EBM Health Centre in Landhi-Korangi.

Working for the care of mothers and their newborns, the Centre will provide nutritional support and guidance to women of childbearing age, expecting mothers and newborns.

This first of its kind Mother and Child Centre has been established to prevent the rising child mortality in society caused by vitamins, minerals and iron deficiencies, as a leading cause. In Pakistan, more than 40 out of every thousand newborns die within the first month of birth, and these deaths are highly preventable through improved nutrition, proper prenatal care and provision of basic medical services.

The Managing Director and CEO of EBM, Dr. Zeelaf Munir, speaking at the inauguration ceremony said that “Mother and child healthcare is very close to our hearts at EBM, and over the years we have focused on remaining at the fore front to provide care to this core segment of our society. Creating awareness and ensuring availability of medical facilities to mothers is the first vital step for establishing healthier and nourished nations. At EBM, we are constantly working towards ensuring development of the communities we operate in.”—PR
