RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered to produce the video recording of the occurrence of attacking participants of a candle-vigil held to mark the fourth death anniversary of Salmaan Taseer in an appeal of five convicts on October 5.

The applicants, Muhammad Adeel and others, through their counsel claimed that there was insufficient evidence to convict the accused. He took the plea that the trial court ignored certain facts while declaring them convicts. He, therefore, asked the court to set aside the conviction and acquit the appellants.

Deputy Prosecutor Khurram Khan while opposing the appeal said that the trial court sentenced the appellants relying on credible evidences. He said they were identified through video recording of the attacking incident.

A case against the applicants was registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act and Pakistan Penal Code. The applicants along with their accomplices on January 4, 2015, had attacked the activists of civil society at Liberty Chowk.

An anti-terrorism court on July 27, 2015, had sentenced accused Muhammad Adeel, Muhammad Furqan-ul-Haq, Muhammad Iftikhar, Wazir Ali and Kashif Munir collective imprisonment of sixteen and half years.
