RECORDER REPORT

HYDERABAD: Speakers at a workshop on “Bonded-labour Laws and rights”, organized by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), have urged the peasants and workers to forge unity under one umbrella against bonded-labour in Sindh.

The Secretary General HRCP IA Rehman said that Bonded Labour System Abolition Act was adopted in 1992 after great sacrifices of peasants and labourers, but despite passage of 24 years, the implementation of the Act is still awaited.

“We have to review the situation and come up with concrete strategy regarding the hurdles in the implementation of Bonded Labour System Abolition Act 2016 to ensure the elimination of bonded-labour from the Sindh province,” he said.

Founder member HRCP Hussain Naqi stressed on the need to begin a movement for implementation of the Act making it clear that movement could not be kicked off without united stance of united people under one umbrella. He asked the freed bonded-labourers to form an organization to exert pressure on the government to ensure the implementation of the Act in letter and spirit.
