PESHAWAR: World Space Week 2016 began here at the University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar, which will continue till October 21. The Theme of this year 'World Space Week' is "Remote Sensing Enabling Our Future". UET Peshawar is holding Space Week in collaboration with SUPARCO for last seven years.

During the opening ceremony, Vice Chancellor University of Swabi Prof Dr Noor Jehan was the chief guest while Dean, Faculty of Engineering UET Peshawar, Prof Dr Noor Muhammad was also present on the occasion.

In his welcome address Prof Dr Noor Muhammad emphasized on holding such events and termed it a healthy activity for the youth. He highlighted the importance of gaining unexplored knowledge of space and to develop an understanding to use the space technology for academic purpose. VC University of Swabi Prof Dr Noor Jehan in her speech said that "space science holds an important place in our daily lives. Today's world is a world of space technology." She said space technology could be used to counter floods, adding but there was need for cooperation to address that issue.

Deputy Chief Manager SUPARCO, Hanif Ur Rehman briefed the audiences about the activities and working of SUPARCO. He also informed about the importance of holding WSW. A Walk was also arranged in the varsity Campus to mark the World Space Week and to bring awareness among the students on the event. The Walk was followed by a seminar on the topic of 'Remote Sensing Enabling Our Future'. Activities like seminars, quiz competition, art competition, model making competition, poster making competition Space videography, visit to PIA Planetarium for Sky Simulation, declamation contest, water rocket competition, Qiraat competition (with themes related to space) and Space Poetry will be the part of the week-long activities. Director Clubs UET Peshawar Engr Naveed Ahmed, faculty members and large number of students were also present on the occasion.
