RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Sunday termed PTI’s scheduled lock-down of Islamabad unconstitutional and undemocratic.

The JUI-F chief met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Lahore and discussed with him issues of mutual interest and political situation of the country.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sahrif said that people had recognised the enemies of progress and prosperity and they would not be part of any game. He said that those who were calling for Islamabad shutdown actually wanted to stop the journey of development and progress. Shahbaz Sharif said the torch-bearers of negative politics were striving to snatch nation’s happiness, by stopping the implementation on the CPEC projects.

JUI-F chief said that the announcement to shut down Islamabad was an open enmity with the country. He said that after the start of hearing of petitions on the Panama Leaks by the Supreme Court there was no moral and political justification for sit-ins and protests.

Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the matter of Panama Leaks is in Supreme Court and taking to the streets for protest is pointless.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said that the current situation is not similar to the one that prevailed on October 12, 1999.

When asked by a reporter if ‘the umpire’s finger would be raised,’ the JUI-F chief replied that the talk of “umpire’s finger” was inappropriate for it was fraught with dangers.

He said that no one could derail a democratic government, adding that Islamabad would not be shut down.
