LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has put up the first draft for the Punjab IT Policy 2016 online for public consultation.

The document would also be discussed by key stakeholders at third PITB roundtable conference starting from today in which over 200 key representatives from the IT industry have been invited.

Sources in the PITB said on Monday that the Punjab government envisions information technology as a vehicle for transforming the province into a knowledge-based, economically vibrant, democratic and inclusive society. The vision of the government is that Punjab should become one of the top e-governed, IT-enabled and e-literate provinces in the region.

Punjab is the first province to remove the Broadband Tax in order to reduce the cost of internet for common users, technology and business incubators and accelerators such as plan 9 and plan X were set up with a strong network of partner universities and industries.
