KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) has entered into an agreement with the Chinese firms M/S Shangahi Canghi Sanitation Engineering.

An official of the provincial Government said here on Tuesday that the agreement pertains to cleanliness in District East Karachi.

The deal to this effect was signed by the Chairman of District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East, Moeed Anwar and president of the Chinese firm Yang Zian. The Sindh Minister for Local Bodies, Jam Khan Shoro, and Deputy Mayor of Karachi, Arshad Vohra were also present on the occasion.

Jam Khan Shoro said on the occasion that the purpose of the SSWMB is to improve the cleanliness system in Karachi.

He said that initially the agreement has been reached with DMC South and East and in the second phase it would be expanded to other districts in the metropolis. The Minister said that under the agreement, the Chines company would invest seven million dollars in District East, Karachi. The company would deploy 96 garbage lifting vehicles and would place over 4,000 dustbins and containers etc.The Minister further pointed out that the Chinese firm will start work two months after the signing of the agreement.

The firm would lift garbage from homes, lanes, streets, mohallas, link and main roads and would shift it to the landfill sites. Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra appreciated the move on the part of the provincial Government. He said with concerted efforts, cleanliness would be ensured and sewerage problems would also be resolved.—APP
