RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Appointment of Justice Ashraf Jahan Jamali, wife of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali, as judge of the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) has been challenged before the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The petitioner, advocate Javed Iqbal Jafree, stated that Justice Jahan Jamali was transferred to Federal Shariat Court after some months of her appointment as additional judge of the Sindh High Court (SHC) without approval of the Parliamentary Committee for judges’ appointment.

He said after some time Justice Jahan Jamali was repatriated to the SHC as additional judge in October 2014 and was made a confirmed judge on August 26, 2015. However, the woman judge was again appointed as judge of the FSC on August 28, 2015, in violation of the Constitution, Jafree added.

The petitioner-lawyer alleges that CJP Jamali used his position for the appointment of his wife as judge of the FSC. He therefore prayed the court to set aside the appointment of Justice Jahan Jamali as judge of the FSC.
