ISLAMABAD: Prices of most kitchen items including cooking oil/ghee, sugar, egg and some vegetables registered increase during the past week as compared to the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday.

Wholesalers and traders at different markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad told Business Recorder that cooking oil/ghee of different brands witnessed an increase of up to Rs 5 per liter/kg during the last week. Good quality ghee/cooking oil brands like Dalda per 5kg tin was being available at Rs 880 against Rs 850, while normal ghee/cooking oil like Phool and Fauji brands are being available at Rs 140 per liter/kg against the previous prices of Rs 130-135 per liter/kg in different markets.

The survey further noted that wholesale price of sugar reached Rs 62 per kg. Sugar price increased by Rs 100 per 50kg bag in the retail market from Rs 2,950 per 50kg bag to Rs 3,050 per 50kg bag. The commodity is being available at Rs 325 per 5kg at utility stores while in retail market sugar price has reached Rs 375 per 5kg.

Further it was noted that egg prices increased from Rs 110 per dozen to Rs 120 per dozen while shimla price increased from Rs 80-90 per kg to Rs 100 per kg and onion at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg during the past week as compared to the preceding week. Prices of most of other kitchen items including vegetables, fruits, rice and pulses remained stable without significant change in their prices.

Tomatoes were being available in the range of Rs 25-30 per kg, potatoes at Rs 30 per kg, cauliflower at Rs 20-25 per kg, cucumber at Rs 60 per kg, ginger at Rs 140-150 per kg, and garlic at Rs 320 per kg. Peas are being sold at Rs 60-65 per kg, kareela at Rs 60-70 and arvi at Rs 50-60 per kg during the past week.

During the week under review, price of chicken registered a slight decrease and was being available at Rs 110-115 per kg. The wheat flour witnessed no change which is being sold at Rs 780-800 per 20kg bag in retail in different markets.

No change in prices of pulses was observed as moong is being sold at Rs 135 per kg, lobia at Rs 115 per kg, Maash at Rs 200 per kg, Masoor at Rs 140 per kg, dal channa at Rs 145 per kg and Kabali channa at Rs 160 per kg.

Prices of most of the fruits during the week under review remained unchanged as banana is being sold at Rs 60-100 per dozen depending on quality, orange at Rs 80-100 per dozen, pomegranates at Rs 150-200 per kg, guava is being sold at Rs 40-50 per kg, apples are in the range of Rs 70 to Rs 250 per kg, while good quality grapes are being sold at Rs 180 per kg.
