LAHORE: After receiving terror threats, the city police put up several ‘pickets’ besides increasing patrolling in the provincial metropolis in order to avoid any untoward incident here on Friday.

According to well-informed sources, the police department had received terror threats after the recent encounter of Asif Chotu, chief of the banned outfit, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. In this regard, they said the police department will conduct a ‘general hold up’ in the city on daily basis for at least 2 or more hours. They added that the DIG police (Operation) Haider Ashraf had also issued direction to the personnel of ‘security wing’, asking them to submit reports directly regarding to security of ‘Chinese people’ as well as the schools. The police department had also received terror threats to the schools and colleges, they added.

The DIG, sources told, had especially issued directions to the personnel of ‘security wing’, directing them to ensure security in the city as no negligence will be tolerated.

When contacted, DIG (Operations) Haider Ashraf did not bother to give his version. Meanwhile, Hammad Raza, spokesman of the DIG denied this scribe, saying that it was a routine matter.
