RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Saturday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Afridi's membership of National Assembly has not been restored yet.

Shehryar Afridi whose membership of National Assembly has been suspended since October, went towards the treasury benches in the House on Thursday last and started a scuffle with Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

MNA Afridi is among 20 parliamentarians who failed to submit their statements of assets and liabilities with the ECP. The website of ECP is displaying the name of Shehryar Afridi as MNA along with two members of Punjab Assembly and seventeen members of Sindh Assembly, who have not yet filed their annual returns. Their memberships of respective assemblies have been suspended since October 15.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that he had allowed Afridi to participate in the proceedings of the House after getting a verbal assurance from the lawmaker that he would submit his assets' details.

Afridi while refuting the ECP statement said that he has received no notification from the ECP regarding his suspension and he had submitted the details on November 2.

The law requires all the lawmakers to submit statements of assets and liabilities of their own, their spouses and dependants with the ECP before September 30 each year. The ECP is supposed to issue a notification by October 15 to suspend the membership of those legislators who fail to do so by the last date (September 30).
