PESHAWAR: Inter-College Women Judo Championship under the aegis of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University got under way here at Larrama Campus on Tuesday.

Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Professor Dr. Razia Sultana was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the Championship. Director Sports and Organizing Secretary of the event Miss Mariyyah Samin, Miss Najma Qazi, Miss Raham Bibi, officials and large number of students spectators were also present.

The Championship will played in eight different weight categories comprising -40, -44, -48, -52, -57, -63, -70Kg and Open with players from seven colleges are taking part. Former Secretary General of Pakistan Judo Federation Masood Ahmad was also present.

Speaking on this occasion, Professor Dr. Razia Sultana lauded the organizing committee for holding the Championship and urged upon the players to take active part in the Games including Judo, a form of Martial Arts introduced by Japanese.

On the opening day, competitions were held in -40, -48, -52Kg weight categories in which Nowshera College claimed two gold, one silver, Govt Girls Degree College, Charrgher Matti bagged one gold medal, one silver medal and a bronze medal while Shaheed Benazir Bhutto took one gold medal and one bronze medal respectively.

The closing ceremony of the Championship will be held on Wednesday. Director General Directorate Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Rashida Ghaznavi will grace the occasion as chief guest.
