ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice on Monday recommended the Constitution (Twenty-Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2017 to the Parliament for approval.

The amendment was proposed in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution regarding increase in the entitlement of pension of widows of the judges of the Supreme Court and high courts from 50 percent to 75 percent.

The committee met under the chairmanship of MNA Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk here at Parliament House to consider the budgetary proposals of Law Division relating to Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2017-18. The Constitution (Twenty-Fifth Amendment) Bill, 2017 and the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2015 (Insertion of new Article 19-B) were moved by MNA Munaza Hassan.

The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2015 (Insertion of new Article 19-B), moved by Munaza Hassan, was also discussed in detail. The amendment was regarding the provision of right to social security to all the citizens of the country. The social security will cover the basic necessities like food, clothing and health cover through the system.

The committee considered the budgetary proposals relating to PSDP for the year 2017-18 in detail. The committee approved all the 12 projects including construction of Islamabad High Court, construction of office and official residence for federal tax ombudsman (FTO), Federal Programme under Access to Justice Programme and others.
