LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday launched a crackdown against those selling Gutka, adulterated ketchup, mayonnaise and starch in various parts of the provincial metropolis.

The field teams sealed unit UK Foods preparing adulterated ketchup and wasted 1,800 kilograms adulterated ketchup, 168 kilograms of mayonnaise and 125 kilograms of starch on the spot.

The teams also sealed 11 water plants as samples taken from these units were failed to meet the standards. A number of paan shops were sealed for selling Gutka. Similarly, some chicken selling points in Tollinton market were heavily fined for not meeting the prescribed standards.

Allama Iqbal Medical College canteen was also sealed because of using non-food graded color, storing left over meal in freezers, keeping eatables on ceiling, improper storage arrangements, adulterated chilies and turmeric.
