KARACHI: Temperature on Wednesday reached 47 degrees Celsius in Shaheed Benazirabad since the hot and dry weather had begun to simmer the parts of Sindh, South Balochistan and South Punjab.

Mercury touched a new high of the season to 46 degrees Celsius in Larkana, Chhor, Mithi, Moenjodaro, Jacobabad, Hyderabad, Sibbi, Lasbella, followed by, Sukkur, Dadu, Turbat, Rahim Yar Khan, Padidan, Rohri with 45. Temperature in Karachi was 42.

“A shallow westerly wave is likely to approach upper parts of the country on Thursday and it may persist during next 24 hours,” the Met Office said. The Met Office forecast a hot and dry weather for Sindh, South Punjab and South Balochistan on Thursday.

It said that mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over the most parts of the country with a light rain-thunderstorm/drizzle at a few places in Malakand Division, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Besides, dust-thunderstorm is also expected at isolated places in Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan Divisions.

Ghotki, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Qambar Shadadkot, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Sanghar and Noshahro Feroze Districts sizzled with a maximum temperature of 46 degrees Celsius, each, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jamshoro, Mityari and Mirpurkhas with 45, each, Badin with 44 and Thatta and Sujawal 43, each.
