ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers on Thursday thronged the streets of the federal capital to celebrate the party’s “victory” in Panama Papers case in the Supreme Court.

The party workers of the Islamabad chapter while chanting slogans in favour of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also exhibited firework show at Abapara Chowk and celebrated the Supreme Court’s judgment with jubilation.

The jubilant PML-N workers were seen hugging each other to congratulate them on what they described the apex court verdict as victory of the party and the Prime Minister and defeat of its critics especially Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“It’s a historic day not only for the party but for the democratic set-up, as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family come clean and all the allegations levelled against them proved wrong,” said Naeem Ahmad, a PML-N worker who was accompanied by dozens of the PML-N workers to celebrate at the Aabpara Chowk. They were also chanting slogans against the PTI and its leadership.

Earlier, in the day, the central leadership of the party declared the victory soon after the apex court announced its verdict in the Panama Papers case, as contrary to PTI’s plea to disqualify the Prime Minister, the court announced a joint investigation team (JIT) to further investigate the allegations levelled against the Prime Minister and his children in Panama Papers.
