KARACHI: Jam Madad Ali of the PPP has been elected Member of Provincial Assembly after having trounced his close rival Jam Nafees of the PML-F in the by-election from PS-81 (Sanghar district) on Thursday, Aaj News reported.

Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians’ contestant Jam Madad secured 35,509 votes as compared to around 25,000 secured by his close rival Jam Nafees Ali Pakistan Muslim League-Functional of Pir Pagara.

The constituency PS-81 fell vacant because then-MPA Jam Madad Ali parted ways with his PML-F and joined PPP. He retained the seat but representing another party.

According to Election Commission’s officials, the constituency spreads over the areas of Sinjhoro, Sindhuri, Sanghar and Jam Nawaz Ali. There are 139,000 registered voters including 76,461 males and 62, 540 females for which 122 polling stations were formed along with 122 presiding officers and 379 assistant presiding officers.

At least 1800 policemen and 700 personnel of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) were deployed in the area.
