LAHORE: The Youth Affairs Department, Government of Punjab launched second phase of its Punjab Youth Peace Core. This was announced during a press conference on Tuesday.

The press conference was addressed by Tehmina Habib, Deputy Secretary Planning and Sabiha Shaheen, Executive Director, Bargad.

The Youth Affairs Department, Government of Punjab, had started the Punjab Youth Peace Core in 2016. This is an initiative by the department which was aimed at peace building and the propagation and implementation of the National Action Plan through the Youth.

As a pilot project 600 youth were trained in 30 Union Councils (UCs) of two districts of Punjab; Lahore and Multan. Peace ealks, peace signature campaigns, wall paintings, seminars, discussions, speech competitions, peace video screenings were organised along with distribution of peace information material on streets of the selected 30 UCs.

Elected Chairmen and councillors, educational institutions and academies and other local dignitaries of the UCs were also involved in this process. Bargad assisted the department in implementing these activities.Now, the initiative is being extended and will reach out to a planned number of 600 more participants including 15 new UCs from the Lahore District. A showcasing event will also be held where participants from the pilot phase will get a chance to showcase their social actions.

Shabiha Shaheen briefed the media about the upcoming activities of Phase 2 of the Punjab Youth Peace Core that will be held on April 27. A showcasing event will be held on the said date in which the achievements from phase 1 will be highlighted.
