KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi will hold a sit-in outside the Governor House against the KE and the federal government’s inability as it is failed to take action against the power supply company.

In connection with its campaign against the K-Electric, JI Karachi also observed Friday as a protest day, featuring demonstrations across the city after Friday prayers.

JI has been running a drive against the power company as the KE is said to be extorting Karachiites since its inception while the back to back ruling regimes were sheltering the misdeeds of the company.

Addressing a big protest demonstration outside the Memon Masjid at Boltan Market area of Karachi on Friday, JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that according to available official record, the company has so far received a hefty amount of around Rs 200 billion from its consumers illegally but instead of taking action against the administration, the regulator is continue to provide relief to the rogue entity.

He recalled that the company is bound to pay billion of rupees to Karachiites as per the decisions taken by NEPRA.

Naeem said that the party is going to hold a sit-in outside the Governor House because the governor is the representative of the Islamabad in Sindh. “We are seeking remedy from the federal government and warned that agitation would be turned towards the PML-N government in centre, if the government failed to take the matter up”, he added.

He further said that the party workers could sit there even for weeks if the demands of Karachiites are not met.

The JI leader also took lawyers fraternity on board in this regard and visited Karachi Bar Association. President of the bar council Naeem Qureshi welcomed Engr Naeem and other delegates of JI. On the occasion, more than 500 lawyers signed the petition and assured him for pursuing the case against KE in the court.

Naeem Qureshi hailed JI for its struggle against KE and proactive role for the rights of Karachiites. He, on behalf of the bar, expressed his solidarity with the party and said that a large number of lawyers will participate in the sit-in.

Earlier, He also inaugurated another complaint cell against KE in Saddar area where a large number of citizens submitted their application. He assured the citizens that the party will approach the top court on behalf of one million citizens along with their petitions.
