RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Sunday offered national cricket star Shahid Khan Afridi a piece of land for establishment of his cricket academy anywhere in the city.

Mayor’s offer came a day after Afridi expressed disappointment over the non-cooperation of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led Sindh Government regarding cricket academy despite several requests made by Afridi to them.

A KMC’s press statement quoted Shahid Afridi as lamenting on PPP government’s cold response to his request for allotment of land for his cricket academy, since long.

However, when it came to knowledge of Karachi mayor, he immediately made a telephone call and offered Afridi a piece of land anywhere in the city to establish the academy.

The star cricketer welcomed and appreciated the offer and said he would hold a meeting with him quite soon.

Mayor and Afridi would also visit various locations to determine a suitable place for establishment of the academy, the KMC statement said.

Waseem expressed hope that the academy under the supervision of star cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi would bring forward best players for the country.
