KARACHI: The ruling PPP’s legislator on Tuesday rejected the claims that Karachi generates the biggest chunk of revenues, saying that Keamari and Bin Qasim towns are, in fact, the only contributors to the national exchequer and not the entire city.

“There are only two towns Keamari and Bin Qasim that are revenue yielder to the country, not the entire Karachi city is the revenue earner,” said PPP’s Manzoor Wassan, criticizing the protesting opposition parties during the private members day sitting of the Sindh Assembly.

He accused the PML-F of depriving the youth of jobs at a gas field in Tehsil Nara, Khairpur District. “The PML-F leadership has no interest in providing jobs to the youth,” he said. He also blamed that a cabinet member of the Nawaz-led government was extorting Rs60 million every month.

Sharjeel Memon of PPP alleged that Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif was using some national institutions in his favour. He said that Prime Minister rules the country on the pattern he runs his private businesses. “Those who are playing a heinous game are involved in a conspiracy to undermine the federation,” he said.

Sharjeel vowed to foil Nawaz’s plans of becoming Ameer-ul-Momineen, saying the premier’s dream would never come true.

“Whenever Nawaz Sharif faces trouble he begins making situation at borders tense,” he said, adding that attempts are also made to sell Pakistan Steel Mill to Indian business tycoon- Sajan Jindal. He said that the PPP would resist the deal.

PPP’s Dr Sohrab Sarki on a point of order raised the issue of census in various district of Sindh, saying that the federal government has not yet provided the province with exact figures after the first phase of head-counting has ended. He blamed the federal government for cheating on census figures.

Sindh Health Minister, Dr Sikandar Mendhro, said that non-sharing of the census data is raising doubts over the federal government’s procedure. He said that no one can expect transparency on statistics from a premier who has already been declared ‘thief’ and ‘corrupt.’ PPP’s lady legislator, Khairunnissa Mughal also expressed her concern on the census process in Sindh.

Before walking out of the house, the opposition parities once again chanted ‘go Zardari go’ and ‘no corruption no.’ They tore up the copies of the assembly’s agenda and tossed them to the speaker’s chair and staged a sit-in protest on the house floor. In the absence of the opposition, the treasury slammed Nawaz Sharif and opposition parties. The house will now meet on Friday morning.
