PESHAWAR: To review the current developments, opportunities and challenges in renewable energy technologies and power engineering with specific reference to national needs, a National Conference on Green Energy Technologies held on Thursday.

The conference was organised by the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (USPCAS-E), University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Peshawar, here at a local hotel.

Arshad Nafees Khan (Co-director, USPCAS-EP) and Secretary Energy & Power inaugurated the conference. The objective of the conference was to share the latest developments in cutting-edge technology, research and innovation in the energy sector and develop linkages among the academic institutions, industry and corporate sector

The conference was attended by students, young researchers/faculty, and representatives from government, industry and corporate sector from across Pakistan.

Renowned speakers from prestigious institutions including LUMS, NUST, COMSATS, UET Lahore, and USPCAS-E, UET Peshawar, having diversified background, extensive knowledge and experience in Renewable Energy Technologies and Power Engineering contributed to this conference.

Interesting discussions and viable suggestions to overcome current energy crisis in Pakistan were put forward and will be focused upon in the near future, stated in a release issued here. On the occasion, prominent speakers, students and young researchers displayed their research in the conference thematic areas i.e., Renewable Energy Technologies and Power Engineering that were evaluated by an independent experts committee for the award of prizes.

Overall, the conference was very helpful to enhance public awareness regarding energy crisis and its sustainable solution in Pakistan.

USPCAS-E is a new initiative at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar funded by USAID, which is expected to be the Center for Advanced Studies in Energy with special emphasis on applied research, market based education and policy with the following objectives to generate knowledge that can contribute to a cost effective and sustainable exploitation of energy resources by industry and the Government.
