ISLAMABAD: The city police Thursday resorted to baton-charge and rounded up over three hundreds clerks when they tried to stage a protest demonstration in front of the Parliament House.

A large number of clerks from different organisations gathered under the auspices of All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) in front of Polyclinic hospital to stage a protest in front of the Parliament House seeking federal clerks’ up-gradation as par with the provincial governments in the upcoming budget.

The police resorted to baton-charge and took into custody a number of clerks when they tried to move towards the Parliament House.

The city police also took into custody several clerks from the other parts of the city who were coming to join the protest, a police official said, adding that the police arrested clerks in order to avoid law and order situation in the city.

He said that the police have not decided yet about registration of cases against the clerks and they are likely to be released gradually.
