RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Talal Chaudhry on Monday made it clear that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will exercise all his rights before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed by the Supreme Court to implement the Panama Papers case verdict.

He further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had not voluntarily exercised all such rights during the Supreme Court’s proceedings in the Panama Papers case.

Talking to media persons, Chaudhry said that the government has conveyed its reservations to the Supreme Court but it will not like to talk about them in public, as the federal government expressed reservations over the proceedings of the Joint Investigation Team on the Panama papers case.

He further said that neither had the Prime Minister claimed immunity before nor will he claim it now, adding that Hassan and Hussain Nawaz should be given the rights which are enjoyed by any non-resident Pakistanis.

The PML-N leader came down hard on Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan for hurling baseless allegations at the third-time elected premier of the country. “We hold the right to exercise the constitutional rights which are given to every Pakistani citizen. We hope that the Supreme Court’s JIT will not apply different laws for Nawaz Sharif,” Chaudhry added.

Meanwhile, talking to the media persons outside the Supreme Court, Spokesperson PTI Fawad Chaudhry condemned the action against the party’s social media activists. He said that the party does not know for sure which organisation ransacked its social media office in Peshawar, saying it could be the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

He cautioned the federal government from using state machinery against opponents, saying “there is a difference between hate speech and political insults.”
