LAHORE: The Punjab Environment Department has launched a crackdown against stone crushing and grinding units in Southern Punjab causing dust pollution leading to increased incidence of diseases among the citizen residing in these areas.

Field teams of the department checked 82 stone crushing and 9 grinding units in Dera Ghazi Khan and other adjourning areas and send cases to the headquarters so as to take legal action against those violating the environment laws and causing dust pollution in the area.

Director and spokesman of the department claimed that these units were causing dust pollution leading to increased incidents of lungs, throat and respiratory problems to the people living in their respective areas.

He said that the department had asked the owners of these units to install dust pollution control filters and negotiation in this regard was in process.
