LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) recovered 1,100,000 of rotten eggs worth Rs.15 million during a raid at an egg processing unit situated at Manga Road on Thursday.

According to details, a field team headed by DG PFA Noor-ul-Amin Mengal raided at an egg processing unit near Lahore which separates yoke of eggs from white fluid to make powder for biscuits. The team found that eggs being used for this process were rotten. The factory had been sealed by the Authority some days back on similar charges but the operation was in process illegally.

The vigilance cell of the Authority during follow up mission found that the factory was still operational. The factory was resealed, all the eggs were destroyed while a case was also registered against the owner.

On this occasion, the DG vowed that they would continue action against adulteration mafia. He disclosed that the Authority had recommended punishment against adulteration stiffer and hoped that it would soon be approved by the provincial government.

Meanwhile, the PFA imposed fine on Bombay Chopati, Arcadian Café and others for using rotten tomatoes and capsicum, dirty cutting board and employing people without medical fitness certificates.

Field teams also imposed fines on other over 15 food outlets on the charges of flouting rules of hygiene.
