RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has developed a smart phone application titled “Raasta” in collaboration with City Traffic Police Lahore to provide smart solutions to general public’s traffic related problems and queries.

The test application is available on both Android as well as iOS platforms. Dr. Umar Saif founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab, Chairman PITB and the Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab said after chairing a meeting of the respective officers including Rai Ejaz, chief traffic officer here on Friday.

He hoped that the application would educate the users on the process of obtaining different types of “Driving Licenses” with detailed information, both in English & Urdu, on the requirements for each license type and making it easy for citizens to pay challans, get traffic alerts, plan driving routes and other services.

“Traffic Updates” another feature of the App would allow the users to gain prior information on the intended traffic routes. With the help of Google Maps traffic updates, the source and destination points will guide the users to avoid traffic congestion.

Users will also get information on the nearest Banks, authorized to collect Traffic Fines, in the current vicinity via “E-Challan”, another App developed by PITB, which will allow the users to pay their fines online without wasting time.

Likewise the application offers users to collect information on nearest “License Centers” to cater to the needs as per requirement. The application will also offer information on Test Centers, License Centers and Driving Schools. Users can also provide their feedback/suggestions, place emergency calls, launch traffic complaints and apply for “E-Test” using the same application.
